Now you don’t need expensive decks in your edit suite.

Film Projects

Transfer your film direct to disk in any codec, from Standard to High Def. We’ll send you the media on a Fire Wire drive. Copy to your system and return the drive it’s that simple. We can provide the drives or use your own.

When you need  to output, send the final edit back on a FW drive and we’ll output to the SD or HD format of your choice and make any HD conversions in the process. No need to worry about tape formats again.

Tape Projects

Shooting Varicam or HDCam? Even if you do not shoot on film, we can take your HD camera tapes and digitize them direct to FW drive in your preferred codec. Or maybe you shot in Varicam but your client requires a HDCam master. No problem, complete your edit with DVCPro HD, copy it to a FW drive and we will output the final project to HDCam SR 4:4:4, HDCam, D5, or any SD format you need.

Transfers can be made to FCP in all SD and HD codecs. We can also create files in the Avid coded in SD formats.

See Frequently Asked Questions below for details on preparing your media.

FAQ

How should I prepare my final edit on the FW drive for transfers?

There are several ways that we can receive your media and edit from the FireWire Drives, but the recommended process is to create a Quick Time file version. After you finish your edit in the FCP timeline, be sure and render any multi-layer effects, then save it as a QT file without any additional compression than your native edit format (if you shot in Varicam, then make the final QT in a Varicam codec, it will add more compression to the original Varicam material which you do NOT want).

Having a final QT file will ensure that there are no media files missing once we receive your FW drive. Your master timecode will match your edit and be transferred to the final videotape. Also please create a folder named "Cinefilm" and place your final edit in there so we can find it quickly, should there be any other material on your drive.

If you are planning for us to color correct your edited piece, we will also need a copy of your final EDL saved to the FW drive also (save this in a FCP, GVC, or Sony fomat). This will allow us to cue to each scene in your final QT version instantaneously saving you time and money.

Also be sure to specify if your final piece is to be Up or Down converted and if there is any changes to the screen format (4:3 vs 16:9).

What format will my film transfer to FCP be created with and will I also get a Flexfile with the film Keycodes?

We will prepare your film transfer in any format you request as if we were transferring it to a tape format. You may request any Standard Def formats like DigiBeta, MiniDV, DVCPro 25 or 50, etc. Or you can request any HD format such as DVCPro H D, HDCam, HDCam SR, or D5. Please note if it is to be in a 24p mode or 60i and if it is 720 or 1080 resolution. Think of it as one of the standard HD tape formats, only it will be digitized to a FW drive.

You will receive one continuous, timecoded QuickTime file in the format you requested, and a copy of the Flexfile with the film Keycodes also.

What type of FW drive or format do you use?

We can accept most any brand of FW drive, but you will get better performance if your drive is a FW800 drive. Inputs to FW400 drives will take longer and cost you more money if using higher definition video codecs. Also, most drives are format free, but we can not accept drives that have been pre-formated for Windows PC for instance unless we re-format them. Remember FCP is a Mac-based system.

If we are transfering material to your FW drive, be sure there is enough space on the  drive for the material. Standard def requires about 1 GB per 1 minute, and HD uses about 7GB for 1 minute as a general rule, depending on the specific codec you use.
